Safety Profiles Created by Residents Can Enhance Emergency Response
The City of Wheat Ridge Police Department recently installed/upgraded their dispatch center to utilize enhanced SMART911 technology. This new system will provide vital information that could help first responders such as police act fast to save lives. Residents are encouraged to sign up for the free service at www.smart911.com and create a profile before an emergency happens.
The free voluntary service is funded by the Jefferson County Emergency Communications Authority, and allows citizens residing in Jefferson and Broomfield counties to create a profile of personal, medical and household information. The data can include medical conditions, medications, disabilities, children’s photos, floor plans and other pertinent information about family members and even pets.
Currently, when 911 dispatchers receive a call only a phone number and minimal levels of data is available. With Smart911 dispatchers will have access to detailed information saved in the caller’s profile. The profiles are kept on a secure and protected database. The information is only provided to 911 dispatchers when a person dials 911 from a telephone number(s) that has been registered in the Smart911 system. The immediate access to this data will assist emergency personnel in responding more quickly and efficiently to calls for service.
To register your free, secure, and protected profile visit www.smart911.com or for more information contact Larry Stodden, Wheat Ridge Police Communications Manager, at 303-235-2937.
