Community Safety Awareness Day is August 28, 2010!

This year Jefferson County District Attorney Scott Storey Presents a Safety Fair. The fair will be held at Jefferson County Fairgrounds 15200 West Sixth Ave., Golden, CO.

Do you have important papers piled up at home? Now is the time to get these documents shredded. Bring them to the fair and have them shredded for free. You can also sign up for the no-call list and stop those annoying sales calls. If that’s not enough then there will also be an opportunity to recycle your old electronics (small fee for some items). These services are all FREE, plus 50 booths offering activities, giveaways, and other valuable information.

There will also be representatives from First Bank available to review your credit report, provide you with a printed copy, and answer questions during your credit report review, a valuable service in these tough economic times.

There will be several opportunities to receive free services on-site. Take some time to give your family important safety awareness tools and visit this event.

Local sponsors include, First Bank, 9News, A-1 Electronic Recycling, Senior Resource Center, Home Instead Senior Care, and the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.

For more information or to participate call Cary Johnson at 303-271-6970

Congratulations to Mr. Curt Gilmore. He was chosen as the 41st Carnation Festival “Count”. Curt is a Wheat Ridge resident who is actively involved in the community. He is the President of the Wheat Ridge Foundation, a member of the finance committee for the Jefferson Foundation and actively participates in the strategic planning committee for the school district. Curt was a former Treasurer and Board Member of Wheat Ridge 2020.

His most rewarding community involvement is with the Wheat Ridge/Arvada service ambassadors for local youth. The organization awards kids who are trying to overcome adversity in their lives. The program gives youth 14-18 recognition, awards and scholarships to support leadership development. Curt enjoys being a part of this program and states “leaders in the community are just an arm’s length away” for all young people in Wheat Ridge.

Wheat Ridge 2020 would like to thank Curt for his continued support of our community and for his involvement with our organization.

38th Avenue Businesses are thriving in Wheat Ridge.

Seth Goede is the owner of S & S Hot Sauce Company and proprietor of The Dragonfly in Wheat Ridge CO. Seth’s passion for the culinary arts inspired him to start S & S Dragons Hot Sauce Company. The sauces were first created in a manufacturing kitchen on Zuni St. in Denver. It wasn’t long before the hot sauce became wildly popular. Demand for the 19 various sauces soon multiplied by 10 times the volume and they outgrew their kitchen.

Seth joined Colorado Proud to promote his sauces and this month he celebrated Colorado Proud Month at the Dragonfly.

Lucky for Wheat Ridge that Seth had his eye on the little yellow Victorian house located at 7300 west 38th Avenue, he “knew it was the right place” when he walked through the doors. I felt right at home, the atmosphere is charming, relaxed and welcoming. The food is priced right and delicious.

If you’re searching for that perfect place to prepare your treasured recipes for resale then take a peek at Seth’s brand new manufacturing kitchen. Seth is proud of the kitchen and hopes it will bring the Wheat Ridge community together. The kitchen is for lease along with the entire facility for tea parties, weddings, and business luncheons.

Stop by for breakfast or lunch this week, pick up one of their amazing bottles of hot sauce and say hi to Seth while you’re there.

It is time to introduce this year’s Countess for the 41st Carnation Festival.

Loretta DiTirro has been chosen by the Carnation Festival Committee to preside over this year’s parade. Community involvement and residency are required to be chosen for this honor. Loretta is a native of Colorado, lives in Wheat Ridge and is actively involved in the community. She is President of Wheat Ridge Enterprise, a Board member of the Wheat Ridge Business District, a member of Wheat Ridge 2020, a member of the cultural commission, Broker Associate at Re/Max Professionals City Properties and was named Volunteer of the Year in 2006.

Loretta enjoys living in Wheat Ridge and she hopes that this experience as Carnation Festival Countess will assist her in finding her one true “Count” in life. The Carnation Festival Committee has chosen Curt Gilmore for this year’s honor in the parade. Loretta stated that “Curt is very deserving “ of this royal honor, but is already married. She is personally seeking a permanent candidate who is stable, has a great sense of humor and one who practices an active lifestyle.

Loretta is a beautiful Countess with Italian heritage. She has recently been bestowed the title HICL, which stands for “Hot Italian Countess Loretta,” and is currently accepting appointments and interviews for qualified candidates to suit her. She may be contacted via e-mail at lorettaditirro@comcast.net to request an appointment. All candidates are asked to send a photo and brief description as to why they should be chosen to court the Countess. Please keep in mind that Loretta has described her perfect outing as a sailing adventure in San Diego, California.

Besides sailing and sunshine the Countess enjoys convertible cars. If you own a convertible Mercedes or BMW you may have the opportunity to ride with Countess Loretta in the parade. You must be available on Saturday the 21st of August 2010, at 8:00 a.m. and be available all morning. If you are interested in this amazing opportunity please contact Loretta via e-mail.

Loretta is also seeking two volunteers to carry the banner announcing her in the parade.

Loretta is indeed royalty in the Wheat Ridge community; her beauty and service are both admired and appreciated.

“Come and Enjoy the fun at the Festival,” said Countess Loretta DiTirrio.

Wheat Ridge has the best parks in Jefferson County. We know it here at WR2020 and now everyone else does too. The Wheat Ridge Transcript declared The Wheat Ridge Greenbelt as the best Nature Trail in Jefferson County. The trail is 6.5 miles long, perfect for biking and long walks and is surrounded by 300 acres of beautiful vegetation and wildlife. This popular greenbelt is also known as The Clear Creek Trail. The trail is 10 feet wide and provides numerous conservation benefits and recreation opportunities including biking, walking, kayaking, and bird watching. Over the past 10 years two new bridges have been built and they are a great place to view the abundance of wildlife that lives in this designated conservation area.

According to Americantrails.org this area has recorded bird observation dating back to the 1800’s and also contains a federally list threatened species, Ute Ladies’ Tresses Orchid, Spiranthes Diluvialis. The trail has been managed in such a way that there is limited negative impact on habitat for wildlife. The design of the trail also provides users an opportunity to enjoy one of the best parks in the metro area and observe rare birds and other interesting wildlife.

Take some time to walk or ride your bike through this inviting park located here in Wheat Ridge.

The 2010 Transit Alliance is moving Denver forward!

Denver is revitalizing our communities with its cutting edge transportation infrastructure. The support of voters and expansion of our regional transit system are evidence that residents of the metropolitan area are interested in transportation and community development. The Transit Alliance Citizens’ Academy will host a program providing 60 participants the opportunity to understand the complex issues of sustainability, community development and transportation.

This interactive program supports the participants in designing and implementing an action plan that will support public and private funding for transit development. WR2020’s Executive Director Britta Fisher is a graduate of the program and is actively engaging in the sustainability of Wheat Ridge. She recently commented on the program’s effectiveness.

“The Transit Alliance Citizens’ Academy was well-organized, informative and fun. I met great people and was inspired by the action plans of my classmates.”

If you’re committed to contributing to the future of transportation and want to improve the quality of life in the Denver metro area then submit your application for the 2010 Citizens’ Academy by 5:00 p.m. Friday, August 13, 2010.

Participants selected will be provided scholarships from supporting organizations and/or Transit Alliance.

To be selected participants must be able to attend all 7 sessions beginning on September 8th and continuing on Wednesdays through October 20th 2010. All meetings will be held in the evenings from 6-9 p.m. at the Denver metro chamber of commerce, 1445 Market Street, 5th floor, Denver, CO.
