Wheat Ridge 2020 - Advancing Wheat Ridge as a vibrant and sustainable community

2nd Annual Child Safety Fair – April 28, 2012

Wheat Ridge Police Department is partnering with local businesses and the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) to sponsor the 2nd annual Wheat Ridge Child Safety Fair.  The event takes place on April 28, 2012, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at Wheat Ridge 5-8 School (formerly called Wheat Ridge Middle School), in celebration of Children’s Day.  The event is for Wheat Ridge residents and is intended to increase community awareness about some of the dangers facing today’s children.

The primary event of the Safety Fair will be FREE inspection and replacement of child safety seats.  There will be bi-lingual car seat inspection technicians on hand to perform child safety seat inspections and educate participants on proper car seat use.  Car Seats that fail the inspection will be disposed of and replaced for FREE, while supplies last, with car seats that were obtained through a grant from CDOT.

Residents should bring their bicycles too!  There will be a bike rodeo for the children that will teach them how to safely operate their bicycles.  Wheat Ridge Cyclery will be conducting FREE bicycle safety inspections and Exempla Lutheran Medical Center donated bicycle helmets that will be given FREE to those in need.

For even more fun, there will be FREE face painting and a jumping castle for the kids and FREE Child I.D. Kits as well as traffic and crime prevention information for the parents; all provided in both English and Spanish.  Last but not least, there will be a drawing to give away two children’s bicycles that were donated by the Wheat Ridge Police Department FOP!

38th Avenue Community Forum – April 24

You are invited to share your thoughts and participate in a General Community Forum on Tuesday, April 24.

In 2011, the Wheat Ridge City Council adopted a revitalization plan for West 38th Avenue from Wadsworth Blvd. to Sheridan Blvd (the "West 38th Avenue Commercial District"). Among the priority recommendations was the creation of a distinctive new brand for the area, and a marketing strategy to activate the district and tell our unique story. Wheat Ridge 2020, Inc. was tasked with supporting the project and recently contracted with Denver-based firms Centro Inc. and Julipp to assist with creation of the district’s new brand identity.

In an effort to engage a cross-section of community stakeholders in the brand development process, the Centro Inc./Julipp team will be hosting several focus groups in Wheat Ridge on Tuesday, April 24 and Wednesday, April 25.

As community member, your input is very important to our ability to create an authentic message that will help promote and attract new investment in the West 38th Avenue Commercial District. I would like to extend an invitation to you to attend a focus group with the Centro Inc./Julipp team on Tuesday, April 24th, 6:30pm – 8:00pm. This interactive focus group session will be about one hour in length and is designed to facilitate candid dialogue about the opportunities and challenges in creating a unified marketing strategy for the W. 38th Avenue Commercial District.

The focus group will be held at the Wheat Ridge Recreation Center, Carnation Room, 4005 West Kipling, Wheat Ridge. An RSVP is kindly requested by Monday, April 23 at noon via email to Kim at kimatwheatridge2020dotorg  (kimatwheatridge2020dotorg)   or by phone 720-259-1030.

If you are unable to come to this open forum, another way to provide feedback is through our online survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/CWRF8YX.

Thanks for your commitment to the community.
