Wheat Ridge 2020 is pleased to announce a contract for over $1.5 million to purchase, rehabilitate and resell foreclosed homes. The funding source for this activity is Community Development Block/Neighborhood Stabilization Program Grant Funds made available through the Community Development Program of Jefferson County, Colorado.
WR2020 requested proposals and has selected a Professional Services Team with Realtor©, Home Inspector, Construction Manager, and Appraiser to work with WR2020 staff in purchasing, rehabbing, and selling the foreclosed homes.  Additional bidding opportunities will be available for construction work on the homes.

West 38th Avenue Community Revitalization Partnership final report now available

WR2020 recently received the West 38th Avenue Community Revitalization Partnership Program report from the Department of Local Affairs and Downtown Colorado Inc. This report represents the observations and recommendations of people who are professionals in community revitalization. It is now up to our community to determine which of these recommendations resonate with us and make implementation plans for the revitalization of 38th Avenue.  We look forward to continued conversation and collaboration in moving toward this goal.

We thank the Department of Local Affairs for providing a matching grant to our community for this program. Thanks to the City of Wheat Ridge for requesting the population waiver that  made us eligible for the matching grant. Downtown Colorado Inc. was the organization that assembled the team of experts and produced the final report. Thank you to local sponsors Enterprise Wheat Ridge, LiveWell Wheat Ridge and the Wheat Ridge Business District for participating in promoting the visit and defraying some costs of the visit.  Thank you to the City of Wheat Ridge staff for providing valuable maps and information as well as insights with the team. And thank you to everyone who filled out a survey or participated in a focus group. Look for more opportunities to contribute to the vision for 38th Avenue at the 38th Avenue Mixed Use meeting on April 8 and the sub area planning process.

You can find the final report on the WR2020 website or by following this link.

Citizen input solicited for naming of 38th and Kipling Park

The once undeveloped land at 38th and Kipling is being transformed into a community park providing new recreational opportunities.  An important step in development of the park is identifying a name; therefore, the Wheat Ridge Parks and Recreation Commission invites residents to participate in the naming process. The Commission is accepting names for a 4-week period from March 22 through April 16, 2010.

The Commission encourages submissions to be reflective of the nature of the park design, theme and geographic qualities or special features within the park.  “The park theme centers on connections, integrating people, nature and play, all tied to our community’s roots,” said Joyce Manwaring, Director of Parks and Recreation.

Proposals should be submitted to the Parks and Recreation Commission c/o Wheat Ridge Recreation Center, 4005 Kipling Street, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033 by mail or in person; by fax to 303-231-1350; or by e-mail to drainguetatcidotwheatridgedotcodotus.

Commercial property for sale

Wheat Ridge 2020 has listed a neighborhood commercial building for sale on the southwest corner of W. 38th Avenue and High Court.  7100 W. 38th Avenue is located in a key neighborhood commercial area anchored by Wheat Ridge Cyclery and the Wheat Ridge middle school.  Recent market studies for W. 38th Avenue pinpointed this area as being ideally located for new mixed use development.  The 1500 square foot building has an open floor plan that could be easily converted to suit a new buyer’s needs.  Additionally there is on street parking in front of the building, a city parking lot adjacent to the site and five to six on-site parking spaces on the west side of the building.   The property is being listed by Axio Commercial Real Estate who specializes in selling and leasing commercial properties along urban corridors throughout the metro area.  Call Axio at 303-592-7300 to view this property. 7100 W 38th Avenue, Wheat Ridge, CO

Date change for 38th Avenue Mixed Use Forum to April 8

The City’s Department of Community Development is in the process of developing new mixed use zoning districts.   38th Avenue, between Sheridan and Wadsworth, is one of the primary areas envisioned for mixed use redevelopment in Wheat Ridge. The new zoning will be part of a larger planning effort, led by the City this spring and summer, to help guide the future of the corridor.  To learn more about the mixed use zoning project and give your input, please visit: www.wrmixeduse.com.
Input from property owners, business owners, tenants, and residents is crucial as we develop new zoning for the corridor. Please join the City and other partners, including Wheat Ridge 2020, for a meeting to learn more about the development.
